Why are Doctors Protesting against the Rajasthan Right to Health Bill?
(Part 3)
CONTENTION NUMBER 3:
Creation of another grievance redressal Committee for complaints against medical professionals and establishments.
[1] The bill creates a new grievance redressal committee for complaints against doctors.
[2] A pertinent question is whether the creation of this committee is even required consider the multiple avenues already available.
[3] A patient can already file a case against doctors to the medical council, consumer courts, civil court, criminal court and sometimes even human rights courts.
[4] Creation of this committee would only increase the legal burden on doctors and medical establishments even further.
[5] Creating such a redundant committee will be a waste of government resources and money.
[6] Another point of contention is regarding who will be the constituent members of this grievance redressal committee.
[7] As per the Act it will mainly constitute bureaucrats, who are neither judges nor doctors.
[8] This can very easily lead to bad, biased judgements because it will be determined by persons who are neither experts in medicine, nor in law.
